Basics of Interpretation Workshop

Use this for: Introducing yourself, your staff, and your volunteers to the basic concepts of interpretation. This is a great primer for anyone who interacts with the public at your site! In this partner workshop from October 2023, Emily Jacobs (Interpretive Programs Manager for Washington State Parks and former Certification and Training Program Manager for the National Association for Interpretation) helps us understand what interpretation is all about, why it's important, and how to approach it strategically. Using the Maritime Washington interpretive themes, we walk through how to identify tangibles, intangibles, and universal concepts that help us connect visitors with our maritime sites, stories, and resources.
