Friends of all ages are invited to enjoy a FREE one-hour cruise aboard the historic Virginia V or sailing experience on Lake Union!

Join Maritime Washington, the Virginia V Foundation, and the Center for Wooden Boats for free boat rides on Lake Union. Choose from a guided history cruise aboard the historic steamship Virginia V or a sailing experience with the Center for Wooden Boats.

Board the Virginia V for a free one-hour Steamship Sunday cruise featuring fascinating tours about the maritime history of Lake Union. Attendees at the July 28 event will have the extra-special experience of hearing from Jennifer Ott, Executive Director of History Link.

Or you can experience the Center for Wooden Boats’ extensive collection of vessels with a free Sunday Public Sail. A Seattle tradition for more than 25 years, these rides are a great way to stretch your sea legs on Lake Union.

The Maritime Washington National Heritage Area is proud to sponsor Steamship Sunday cruises in July and August so that attendees will also have the opportunity to ride aboard the Virginia V for free! When: Sunday, July 28 and Sunday, August 25, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm

Virginia V Steamship Sunday Cruises

  • Cruise #1 runs from 12:30-1:30 pm. Boarding begins at 12:00 pm.
  • Cruise #2 runs from 2:30-3:30 pm. Boarding begins at 2:00 pm.

Space on the boat is limited and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage you to get there early to secure your spot.

Center for Wooden Boats Public Sails

Sign-ups for Sunday Public Sails begin in person at 10:00am in front of the Wagner Education Center and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where: Center for Wooden Boats Wagner Education Center, 1010 Valley Street, Seattle, WA 98109

Sign up for both the Virginia V and Public Sails by lining up at the Wagner Education Center. Please give yourself plenty of time to utilize public transportation or find street parking. There is also a small parking lot nearby for a fee.

Who: All are welcome to attend this free, family-friendly event!

Minors must be accompanied by an adult. All passengers are required to sign the Center for Wooden Boat’s digital waiver form while in line before signing up for a boat ride. Parents must sign individual waivers for each child.
