We are thrilled to announce that our story series Women on the Waterfront has been recognized by the City of Tacoma’s Landmarks Preservation Commission with the 2025 Award for Outstanding Achievement in Broadening Perspectives in Preservation.

This annual award celebrates the vital work of individuals and organizations who help preserve and enhance Tacoma’s unique cultural and historical character. Women on the Waterfront was honored for its commitment to sharing the often-overlooked stories of the women who have shaped Tacoma’s maritime legacy.
Through interviews, research, and photography, the series highlights the roles women have played in building, sustaining, and transforming Washington’s waterfront.
We are deeply grateful for this recognition and proud to stand alongside others who are working to broaden the definition of preservation to one that includes the voices, labor, and lived experiences of all who have contributed to our shared history.
Our heartfelt thanks to the Landmarks Preservation Commission for this honor, and to the Women on the Waterfront who trusted us with their stories.
