Partner Field Trip: čičməhán Trail and Fort Worden
Friday, August 21, 2026 10:00 am - 02:30 pm
Port Townsend
Join us for our next partner field trip! Meet in Port Townsend to explore how you can utilize self-guided tours and living history to share stories of maritime heritage. Stops include:
čičməhán (Cheech-ma-han) Trail: a self-guided interpretive trail that chronicles the history of the S’Klallam people and the European settlers as they worked to co-exist. The trail includes 18 sites and signs throughout the city of Port Townsend. During our field trip, we’ll explore several of these signs, walking 1.5-2 miles total.
Commanding Officers Quarters Museum at Fort Worden Historical State Park’s: a sprawling site overlooking Admiralty Inlet, Fort Worden was originally constructed at the turn of the century to protect Puget Sound from invasion by sea. Today, it’s one of Washington’s most popular State Parks, featuring beach access, camping, dozens of preserved and re-used historic buildings, vendors, and much more. During our field trip, we’ll visit the Commanding Officer’s Museum within the park, which provides a glimpse into the family life of officers who served in the Coast Artillery Corps during the early 1900s.
Lunch & debrief at Taps at the Guardhouse
