Use this for: government entities and nonprofit organizations using state funds looking to better understand Executive Order 21-02 Archaeological and Cultural Resources. Executive Order 21-02, passed in 2021 to expand/replace Executive Order 05-05, requires state agencies using capital funds—and nonprofits receiving state funding for capital construction or land acquisition—to consider how proposed projects may impact cultural resources. The process includes obtaining letters from both DAHP and the tribes for pre-design and design phases to avoid adverse impacts to archaeology and historic resources. Confused? Curious? Check out this training from the Snoqualmie Tribe to learn more about 21-02 and how it impacts your work. Although this training is specific to collaboration with the Snoqualmie Tribe and speaks specifically to their staffing and processes, it's a helpful starting point for understanding the requirements and initiating consultation processes with other Tribes as well.
