What does Maritime Washington Mean to You?

The 2024 Maritime Washington Photo Contest is currently closed for new entries. The contest was open between May 13 and June 17, 2024. We will be announcing the winners on Instagram and Facebook by July 17.

Tell us what Washington’s saltwater shores mean to you by submitting a picture via email or direct message on social media by June 17! You could win one of four prizes and the chance to be included on a calendar of Maritime Washington photos.

Prizes will be awarded for the top two submissions in two categories: Youth (under 13 years old) and Adult.
All winners will receive America the Beautiful National Park Passes, and the top prize for each category will win a mystery Maritime Washington gift bag, full of toys, activities, art, and books.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Entrants may submit one photograph via email or direct message.
  • Along with the photograph, please include:
    • The name of the photographer.
    • The location of the photograph.
    • The social media tags for the photographer, or other contact information.
    • Whether the submission is in the youth (13 years old or less) or adult photographer category
  • No minimum resolution requirements, but only photos above 300 dpi will be considered for the calendar.
  • Portrait and landscape photos are accepted.
  • Entrant should follow Maritime Washington National Heritage Area on at least one social media platform for consideration.
  • Submission open Monday, May 13 – Monday, June 17
  • Winners announced by Wednesday, July 17

Contest Rules:

  • Photo must be of the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area, within 1/4 mi of Washington’s 3000+ miles of shoreline.
  • Entrants must submit within one of two brackets: youth photographer (13 years old or less) and adult photographer (more than 13 years old)
  • Photos are licensed for use by the Maritime Washington National Heritage Area.
    • Credit will be given to the creator whenever possible.
    • The Maritime Washington National Heritage Area may use or adapt the photo in any context.
  • Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in conveying the beauty and/or unique character of Maritime Washington
  • Submission must include a description of the location it was taken, the name and age of the photographer, and contact information for the photographer.
    • Please note if you would like for any of this information to not be published.
  • Prizes are awarded at the sole discretion of the judging committee, made up of Washington Trust for Historic Preservation staff.
