2026 marks the third annual Mosquito Fleet Fest on the Port Orchard Waterfront. This new maritime festival incorporates multiple forms of pop-up and experiential interpretation to share the story of Washington’s historic mosquito fleet—the many small steamships that carried passengers and goods across the region in the late 1800s and early 1900s before the advent of a centralized ferry system and reliable highways.
This field trip will explore how events can weave together both formal and informal interpretation experiences—such as guided tours, pop-up exhibits, scavenger hunts, coloring sheets, themed vendors, and more—to engage visitors and share stories. Attendees will also have the chance to step aboard the historic Carlisle II mosquito fleet ferry for a narrated “Story Sail,” one of the festival’s signature experiences.
Use this form to register for the Maritime Washington Partner Field Trip to the Mosquito Fleet Festival in Port Orchard on Saturday, May 23. Additional details and exact timing will be provided to registrants via email.
